A very well done film – tolerance for the mentally ill and their adaptations to their disease is called for here and also in the medical profession. Skilled actors portray the outward manifestations and aberrant thinking that occurs. Richard Gere does a fine job of portraying the doctor who tries to work toward a cure – rather than send them for shock treatments. He tries a lot of innovative techniques including writing letters from his superior to the patients – making them feel important. This picture of Richard Gere is very appropriate since his approach is very warm and accepting.
